Rest Restores Discernment: Returning to God’s Original Rhythm

Kristen Renee Ingram

What if rest was never meant to be earned but returned to? Many of us have been taught to equate exhaustion with faithfulness, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, unclear, and disconnected from both ourselves and God.

In this session, Kristen Renee Ingram, a theologian and creator of Black Girl Sabbaticals, explores rest as a sacred rhythm designed by God, not as a reward but as a pathway back to alignment. Drawing on scripture, lived experience, and her academic training, including a Master of Arts in Justice and Advocacy from Fuller Theological Seminary, she reframes overthinking, burnout, and lack of clarity as signs that the body and spirit are in need of rest.

Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of how rest restores discernment, how to recognize when they are moving from exhaustion instead of wisdom, and how to begin returning to rhythms of rest that create space for healing, clarity, and freedom.
